Day 9: From Seaford to Hastings
Sunday = Funday! Today’s ride certainly was enjoyable. The sun eventually appeared after an overcast morning. Dad and I got ready and set off towards Hastings. The ride was along my trusty friend the Cycle Route 2 so I knew I was in good (ish) hands. It also throws up an element of the unknown as it takes you down all kinds of roads and paths. My hip was feeling pretty good after the last few days, which was comforting because it was a long trip today. Dad left me after twenty minutes to fetch the ol’ camper. He left me at a point where the road had disappeared and instead been replaced with a grassy pathway. I was instructed by a man outside his house to “Follow this route…I should know, I am a cyclist!” He was right! It was an awesome trip through fields of sheep and rolling countryside. A lot to different to my usual tarmac. The cycle lane then took me on some quiet roads with more scenic views. At one point I was cycling through woods trying to dodge the muddy patches! Great fun.
The sun was beating down as I rolled into Bexhill. I pulled up to the junction and waited for the cars to pass. The next vehicle was Dad! He’d taken a different route and luckily it coincided with mine! We stopped and had a chat. We met again a little further down the beach for a quick lunch.
I only had 5 miles left but a big hill was waiting for me at the end so I set off quickly. I raced though a busy Hastings and up the sneaky hill. I’m glad the Cornwall training is paying off as a couple of hills isn’t so bad. This certainly won’t be the case when I’m near the alps though! I waited with a cheeky cider in the sun for Dad to arrive. I wish all the campsites had bars overlooking the sea! The campsite is quality so we are enjoying our evening. Not long till France now!
